Bluelab pH-Pen – check nutrient solution pH and temperature before feeding

The Bluelab pH-Pen is a digital handheld meter for checking nutrient solutions. It measures pH and temperature, allowing you to test a freshly prepared feed or take readings directly from your reservoir. Suitable for beginners and experienced growers, it helps you base your feeding checks on measured values rather than guesswork.

Take a reading and hold it on screen

Immerse the probe tip in the solution and wait for the reading to stabilise. Automatic temperature compensation accounts for temperature effects on the pH measurement. The hold function keeps the current reading on screen, so you can lift the pen out of the reservoir to read it comfortably. Temperature can be displayed in °C or °F. The pen switches off automatically after four minutes to conserve battery power.

This model does not measure EC. To check electrical conductivity as well, pair it with the Bluelab EC-Pen.

Prepare the probe and maintain calibration

Before first use, soak the probe tip in KCl storage solution for 24 hours. Then calibrate with fresh pH 7.0 solution, followed by pH 4.0 solution. Rinse the tip with clean tap water between solutions. The Bluelab pH Cleaning and Calibration Set is a useful accessory for ongoing maintenance.

The calibration symbol disappears after 30 days to remind you that calibration is due. Calibrate monthly, and again after cleaning, hydration or a battery change.

Keep the fixed probe hydrated

The pH probe is not replaceable and must remain moist. After each measurement, rinse the tip with clean tap water and refit the storage cap. Keep the wetting seal inside the cap moist with Bluelab KCl storage solution. Do not use distilled, deionised or pure reverse osmosis water for rinsing, hydration or storage, as these can permanently damage the probe.
