Check NPK nutrient levels in soil with a straightforward reagent test
The Milwaukee NPK Soil Test Kit MT6003 is designed to assess the nutrient status of a soil sample for nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. This chemical test kit is suitable for growers and gardeners who want a clearer picture of soil fertility before adjusting their feeding programme. Results are determined by colour or turbidity comparison, so no electronic meter is required.
Test three key plant nutrients separately
The kit provides individual reagents for nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Nitrogen as NO3 and phosphorus as P2O5 are assessed using colorimetric tests: after adding the relevant reagent, the developed colour is compared with the supplied colour card. Potassium as K2O is tested turbidimetrically by evaluating the cloudiness of the solution. This provides a graded indication of the nutrient level in the soil. Suitable fertilisers and plant nutrients can then be selected according to your cultivation requirements.
From soil sampling to nutrient assessment
Before carrying out the individual NPK tests, a dried soil sample is mixed with the supplied MT5015 extraction solution to prepare a soil extract. Milwaukee recommends taking suitable samples from several points within an area and combining them into a homogeneous sample where representative results are required. The kit is therefore particularly useful when working with soils and growing media where you want to assess the existing nutrient situation.
Up to 25 tests for each nutrient
There are 25 individually portioned reagent packets for each of the three test parameters. Test tubes, pipettes, a spoon, tube stand and comparison cards are also supplied, providing the main equipment required for the procedure. For a broader view of growing conditions, NPK soil testing can be complemented with suitable pH and EC meters. The chemical reagents should only be handled in accordance with the operating and safety instructions and kept out of reach of children.
