ADWA AD31 – check nutrient solution conductivity and temperature

The ADWA AD31 electronic conductivity meter is a handheld tester for checking irrigation water and nutrient solutions. It displays electrical conductivity, a calculated TDS value and temperature, helping beginners and experienced indoor and outdoor growers assess the salt concentration of their nutrient solution.

Understand your EC and TDS readings

EC indicates the concentration of dissolved salts rather than the amount of any individual nutrient. Take the EC of your source water into account when assessing a mixed feed. The TDS reading in ppm is calculated from conductivity using an adjustable conversion factor. For reference, 1000 µS/cm equals 1 mS/cm. The AD31 does not measure pH; a separate instrument such as the ADWA AD11 pH meter handles that measurement.

Temperature compensation and a clear display

The dual-line LCD shows either EC or TDS alongside the temperature. Automatic temperature compensation accounts for the effect of temperature on conductivity. Immerse the probe in your sample, stir gently and wait for the stability symbol to disappear. You can then use HOLD to freeze the display while noting down the result.

Automatic calibration with 1413 µS/cm solution

The meter uses automatic single-point EC calibration with a 1413 µS/cm EC calibration solution. Calibrate regularly and whenever you replace the probe. Rinse the probe thoroughly between different samples to prevent residues from affecting the next reading.

Replace the probe and keep using your meter

When needed, fit an ADWA AD32P replacement probe rather than replacing the complete tester. Carefully tighten the probe housing afterwards to restore the watertight seal. A low-battery warning alerts you when the batteries are running down, and the meter switches off automatically after eight minutes of inactivity.
