Tropf-Blumat Maxi for demand-based watering in deep plant containers
The Tropf-Blumat Maxi, 1 pc. is an automatic watering sensor designed for larger plants, deep pots and planters. It combines a moisture sensor, valve and dripper and is particularly suitable for containers from 30 cm high. Its extended design monitors moisture deeper within the root zone than the standard Tropf-Blumat and controls water delivery according to the actual moisture level of the growing medium.
Monitoring moisture deeper in the root zone
The water-filled clay cone remains in direct contact with the growing medium. As the soil becomes drier, the sensor responds to the changing suction tension and opens the water supply. Once sufficient moisture has been restored, the flow is reduced or stopped again. Watering therefore operates automatically without electronic controls. With the Maxi version, moisture is monitored deeper inside the container, while the surface of the growing medium can remain comparatively dry.
Connecting to a Tropf-Blumat system
The supplied 8-3-8 mm T-piece is inserted into the 8 mm main supply line. The 3 mm drip tube then carries water from the sensor to the required drip point. For building or extending your system, suitable 8 mm Blumat feeding tube and additional 3 mm drip tube are available separately. The Tropf-Blumat Maxi does not generate water pressure itself and must therefore be connected to a suitable Tropf-Blumat water supply.
Installation and expansion for larger containers
Before installation, the growing medium should be watered thoroughly so moisture is evenly distributed. The Maxi is inserted approximately 15–18 cm into the substrate. In densely rooted or compacted soil, preparing a suitable hole first helps ensure good contact around the clay cone. In wider containers, water distribution can be extended with Blumat distribution drippers. Up to five distribution drippers can be used with each Tropf-Blumat.
