S.A.D. by Sweet Seeds

S.A.D. does not lean on modern US sweetness, color play, or autoflower speed. Its center sits in an older, heavier Afghan line that Sweet Seeds fixed through the self-pollination of a selected Black Domina ’98 mother plant. This is not a trend-driven line. It is a quieter, more closed variety with a clear old-school backbone.

The plants develop with a strong indica shape. Internodes stay short, the stem remains firm, and the side branches come in abundantly. That creates a dense, supportive frame with real substance through the center rather than a loose or restless plant body. In contained setups, that clear form works in its favor because it tends to fill space rather than scatter outward.

Flowering takes approximately 8-9 weeks. Sweet Seeds lists yields of 400-500 g/m² indoors and 350-550 g per plant outdoors, with 15-20% THC and 1.8% CBD. With 15 documented cups, S.A.D. is one of the most awarded strains in the catalogue, including 1st Place Indoor Bio at the 2009 Cannabis Champions Cup and 2nd Place Outdoor Indica at the 2022 Copa Farallones.

The expression stays firmly on the darker Afghan side. The sweetness is obvious, but it is not bright, candy-like, or playful. There is also a musky note that belongs more to older Afghan lines than to modern dessert families. That combination gives the variety a deeper, heavier overall presence with a very clear genetic direction.

What carries S.A.D. most clearly is not a wide spread of possible outcomes but the tight hold of the line itself. Sweet Seeds explicitly describes the offspring as fairly homogeneous. Because of that, the variety does not live through surprise or broad variation. It lives through consistency: compact build, dense flowers, and a sweet musky Afghan core.
