Bluelab KCl – Storage Solution to Keep Your pH Probes Properly Hydrated

Bluelab KCl Storage Solution is specially formulated to keep pH probes and pH pens hydrated while they are not in use. This ready-to-use potassium chloride solution helps protect the delicate electrode reference system and maintain suitable storage conditions for reliable pH measurements. It is a useful part of routine equipment maintenance for growers who regularly monitor irrigation water and nutrient solutions using instruments such as the Bluelab pH Pen.

Why pH Electrodes Need KCl Storage Solution

The sensitive tip of a pH probe must remain hydrated between measurements. Bluelab uses potassium chloride (KCl) within the reference system of its pH electrodes. The matching storage solution helps maintain the correct environment around the reference junction, reducing the risk of contamination and changes to the internal electrolyte.

Distilled, deionised and reverse-osmosis water should never be used for storing pH probes, as these liquids can interfere with the electrode’s internal chemistry and affect its performance.

Simple Storage and Probe Rehydration

After taking a measurement, add enough Bluelab KCl Storage Solution to the storage cap to keep the sensor tip moist. Check the solution level regularly, ideally once a week, and top up with fresh solution when necessary.

If a pH probe has dried out, its tip can be soaked in KCl solution for 24 hours to restore hydration. Afterwards, rinse it with fresh water and recalibrate the instrument. The Bluelab pH 7.0 Calibration Solution and Bluelab pH 4.0 Calibration Solution are suitable for this maintenance procedure.

The 18 ml single-use sachet is convenient for occasional maintenance and use on the move. The 100 ml bottle provides a larger supply for regular probe care and refilling storage caps. Both sizes contain the same KCl storage solution.
