Tropf-Blumat Maxi for moisture-responsive irrigation in deep containers

The Tropf-Blumat Maxi, 50 pcs. is the longer version of the Tropf-Blumat irrigation sensor, designed particularly for large pots and troughs from 30 cm in height and plants with deeper root zones. Each Maxi combines a moisture sensor, valve and dripper, regulating water delivery according to the moisture of the surrounding growing medium. This pack of 50 is well suited to building or extending larger Tropf-Blumat irrigation systems.

Sensing moisture deeper in the root zone

With an insertion depth of 15–18 cm, the Tropf-Blumat Maxi reaches further into the growing medium than the standard version. It can therefore respond to moisture conditions in deeper layers where much of the root system of larger plants may be located. Water is delivered through the drip tube, whilst the water-filled clay cone acts as the moisture sensor. As a result, the surface of the growing medium can remain comparatively dry.

Automatic control without electricity

As the growing medium around the sensor dries, the Tropf-Blumat opens its valve and allows water to flow. Once sufficient moisture has returned, the valve closes automatically. The supplied T-pieces connect the individual units to an 8 mm Blumat feeding tube. No electronic controller or timer is required for the moisture-responsive regulation itself.

Expandable for larger containers and systems

Each of the 50 Maxi sensors comes with a T-piece 8-3-8 mm and a 60 cm drip tube. The 8 mm main feeding tube is required separately. For particularly large containers, a Blumat Distribution Dripper Set can add further watering points to improve water distribution around the root zone. Other compatible components for planning or extending the installation are available with the Blumat irrigation systems.

Installation in deep pots and troughs

The growing medium should be thoroughly watered before installation so moisture is evenly distributed. Insert the sensor with good contact between the clay cone and the surrounding soil or substrate. With newly planted specimens, it should not be pushed directly into the fresh root ball. Once installed, each Tropf-Blumat is adjusted to the required moisture level and should be checked during the first few days so that individual settings can be fine-tuned where necessary.
