Hydroponic Research VEG+BLOOM DIRTY – one-part nutrition for soil and peat-based media

Hydroponic Research VEG+BLOOM DIRTY is a concentrated powdered base nutrient for plants grown in soil and peat-based substrates. Its one-part formula supports plants through both vegetative and flowering stages without requiring several separate base nutrients. DIRTY is specifically formulated for soil and peat systems and, according to Hydroponic Research, can be used regardless of the starting water quality.

One powder for vegetative growth and flowering

VEG+BLOOM combines the fundamental plant nutrients in a single dry blend. DIRTY has an NPK ratio of 8-5-13 and combines its mineral nutrient base with organic components. This makes the formula particularly relevant to growers working with soil or peat-based mixes. Suitable options can be found in the soil growing media range, while other base nutrients and supplements are available in the fertiliser range.

Feeding rate according to plant stage

For medium feed strength, the manufacturer’s feeding chart starts at 3 g per US gallon of water during rooting, equivalent to approximately 0.8 g/L. During vegetative growth, the transition into flowering and the first flowering phase, the specified rate is 6 g per US gallon, or approximately 1.6 g/L. The rate is reduced to 3 g per US gallon in the following flowering phase. Individual plants may require weaker or stronger feeding depending on their needs and growing conditions.

Check the nutrient solution after mixing

Dissolve the powder thoroughly in the final volume of water. Hydroponic Research states a working pH range of 5.6–6.5 for VEG+BLOOM after mixing and recommends checking the pH afterwards. Suitable pH and EC measuring equipment makes routine monitoring straightforward. VEG+BLOOM can also be used alongside nutrient additives; when an additive contributes additional NPK, the amount of base nutrient should be reduced accordingly.
