Compost Tea Aeration Kit with Air Pump – A Simple Way to Supply Air to Your Brew
The Compost Tea Aeration Kit with Air Pump provides the essential equipment for introducing air into liquids. It includes a compact Hailea air pump, a 5 cm air stone and 2.5 m of flexible air tubing. Designed for growers looking for a straightforward aeration system, the kit can be used when preparing compost tea or aerating water and smaller nutrient solution reservoirs.
Active Aeration for Compost Tea and Nutrient Solutions
Oxygen is an important factor when brewing aerobic compost tea. Aeration helps create conditions that support oxygen-dependent microorganisms. These microorganisms contribute to the breakdown of organic matter and the conversion of nutrients into forms that plants can absorb.
The included Hailea air pump delivers up to 1.3 litres of air per minute, equivalent to 78 litres per hour, while consuming just 1.8 watts of electricity. Air travels through the tubing to the submerged air stone, where it is released as fine bubbles into the liquid.
Fine Bubble Distribution with Air Stone and Tubing
The supplied air stone measures 5 cm and features a 5 mm connection. Its structure disperses the incoming airflow into numerous small bubbles, creating a larger contact area between air and water than an open tube outlet.
The 2.5 m air tube has an internal diameter of 4 mm and an external diameter of 6 mm. It connects the air pump to the air stone while allowing the pump to remain outside the brewing container and the stone to sit beneath the water surface.
Preparing Compost Tea and Choosing the Right Airflow
The kit can be combined with compost tea ingredients such as BioTabs PK Booster Compost Tea. Always follow the ingredient manufacturer’s instructions, particularly regarding brewing time and the required aeration capacity.
It is important to match the pump’s airflow to the volume and composition of the brew. With an output of 1.3 l/min, the included pump has a relatively low air capacity. For example, BioTabs recommends an airflow of 10 l/min for a 5-litre compost tea batch. A more powerful pump is therefore required for that volume. Suitable alternatives can be found in the air pumps and aeration pumps range.
To assemble the system, connect the tubing to the pump and air stone. Keep the pump dry and outside the container while placing the air stone in the liquid. A suitable non-return valve helps prevent water flowing back through the tubing when the pump is switched off. The brewing container and compost tea ingredients are not included.
