CANNA Coco Coarse for an open, well-aerated root zone

CANNA Coco Coarse is a coarse-textured coco substrate for crops that benefit from an open, well-aerated and free-draining root zone. It suits growers who hand-water or use automated systems and want as much of the available container volume as possible to remain usable for root development.

Open structure without pebbles or perlite

Selected large-grade coco fibres with fewer fine particles are combined with rice husks to create a loose structure. Excess nutrient solution can drain readily while plenty of air remains available around the roots. The rice husks provide additional aeration and act as a natural source of silica. Because no pebbles or perlite are required, the entire substrate volume remains available for root growth. You can compare other coco substrates in the relevant Growmart category.

For hand-watering and automated irrigation

The water-holding and drainage characteristics suit hand-watering as well as gravity-fed valves, drip irrigation and ebb-and-flow systems. In smaller containers or programmes with several irrigation events per day, excess nutrient solution can drain efficiently while the root zone remains well aerated. Suitable automatic irrigation systems help you maintain regular watering intervals reliably.

Buffered start with a suitable coco nutrient

The substrate is fully buffered and lightly pre-fertilised. This small nutrient reserve provides stable starting conditions, but it is not a long-term feed. CANNA recommends a dedicated coco fertiliser from the first irrigation and with every watering. For most systems, CANNA Coco A & B is the recommended base nutrient. Adjust the finished nutrient solution to pH 5.5–6.2; CANNA gives approximately pH 6.0 as the general target. For strategies with higher run-off, typically 10% or more, and several daily irrigations, CANNA recommends COGr Vega and Flores.

Stable through the crop and suitable for reuse

The larger coco fibres help maintain aeration and drainage throughout the crop cycle. CANNA Coco Coarse can be used from young plants through to harvest. Before reuse, remove as much old root material as possible and flush the substrate thoroughly. This helps preserve its physical structure for a subsequent crop.
