Super Skunk Automatic is an 80% indica autoflowering strain that lets growers produce two harvests in one outdoor season. Its even growth pattern, solid yields and citrus scent make it attractive to less experienced growers too. Strong, sweet and easy to grow, Super Skunk Automatic is a favourite with beginners and growers short on time, space or energy. The plants can thrive outdoors even in short summers and wet weather. For growers looking for compact plants that need little care to produce solid buds, this strain is a perfect choice.
Growth pattern: Super Skunk Automatic seeds produce potent, fast-flowering plants. Being 80% indica, they are usually compact, and they are self-flowering, which is ideal for anyone with little experience, energy or time. The plants start to flower automatically after a set time. Although flowering does not depend on the amount of daylight the plant gets, the plants benefit from an extended light cycle (14 to 18 hours a day) to boost vigour and yield. Flowering usually lasts seven to nine weeks, and the plants do not go back to vegetative growth even if the photoperiod is unpredictable.
Super Skunk is normally grown indoors under lights, but this Automatic version can also thrive outdoors in temperate climates. When the summer is cooler, the autoflowering trait lets flowering line up with the longest days of the season, so buds and resin develop in the sun rather than in the colder, damper autumn months. Super Skunk Autoflowering plants are fairly compact, so techniques such as topping and supercropping are not suitable here; most gardeners use automatic strains to avoid as much care and intervention as possible. More experienced, curious growers might like to experiment with Sea of Green (SOG), Screen of Green (SCROG) and lollipopping, which all suit the plant’s “bud on a stick” growth pattern. The buds are dense, well sized and bright green, with a generous coating of trichomes and large calyxes.
Super Skunk Auto is not the highest-yielding strain, but it gives rewarding harvests. A larger growing area and longer light hours during flowering help maximise yield, and make no mistake, the buds are satisfying and by no means small.
Effect, taste and smell: the scent of Super Skunk Automatic often surprises people. Unlike other strains in this family, the aromas are not overwhelming but recall sweet citrus fruit. The base notes are warm and spicy, like other Skunk cannabis, underlining the plant’s indica heritage. The aromas become more noticeable as flowering begins, but are not as overwhelming as in the regular and feminised Super Skunk; they peak in the last week. After curing, the lemon smell of the buds becomes less pronounced, but the flavours come through at once.
The overall impression is relaxing (thanks to the 80% indica share), though the buds also have an uplifting side from the sativa share. Plants grown outdoors are usually less strong than those grown indoors, as with most cannabis strains; this milder strength often appeals to people who want a less intense strain, and makes it a good choice for those not used to cannabis.
