Californian Orange

Description

Californian Orange by Dutch Passion

Californian Orange is one of those varieties that does not need loudness to hold its place. The line feels classic, clear and unusually self assured, precisely because it does not hide its profile behind modern dessert patterns. Orange is not a side note here, but the thread that carries the variety from name to plant expression.

The fruit side stays bright, juicy and direct without slipping into simple sweetness. That is exactly what makes Californian Orange work. The profile does not feel artificially inflated, but almost stripped back, with a clearly marked citrus line and enough sharpness underneath to keep the variety from turning soft or generic.

Californian Orange stays medium-sized and comparatively compact, with short to medium internodes, balanced hybrid foliage and limited stretch. Indoor plants typically finish around 100 cm, while outdoor specimens can reach 100-200 cm in dry, sunny conditions.

Resin also plays a visible part in the whole picture. Not only the flowers, but much of the surrounding plant material can come heavily coated, which adds further presence to the variety. Together with a strong yield side, this keeps Californian Orange relevant not only through aroma, but through practical value as well. That is part of why it has held its place over the years.

Californian Orange therefore comes across as a bright, clearly drawn Dutch Passion line in which orange character, an open plant build and a remarkably durable classic identity set the tone.
