How charas is made

Unlike Moroccan-style hash, which is sieved from dried plants, charas is collected from the living plant. The maker rubs the flowering tops between their palms for hours; the warmth of the hands gradually releases the resin, which builds up on the skin before being scraped off and rolled into balls or sticks.

Because the plant is fresh, the trichomes still hold their most volatile terpenes, which are usually lost during drying. That is where charas gets its fresh, minty and lemony character.
